Unpacking My Upgraded Work-From-Home Desk Setup
1. Old iMac External Monitor
A family member gave me an old iMac several years ago. It’s ancient when used as a desktop computer, but great as an extra external monitor using “target display mode”.
I had to jerry-rig it with a USB-2 to Mini-Display that connects to a Mini-Display to USB-C cable. Then I have to press Control-F2 on an Apple keyboard to get it to connect. Took me a while to figure out, but it works!
On this screen, I typically display all my helpful admin software: Clickup, Slack, and Amazon Music.
2. MacBook Pro
This is my main laptop and works as a center monitor when I’m at home. I use this screen for most of my active work, like if I’m writing something or on a video chat.
This has been my work laptop since 2017, so it’s eight years old and still going strong. It has 16 GB of RAM and 500 GB of internal storage.
Also, if you’re wondering about the photos on the background of the screens—I took all of those on my Mediterranean Cruise. You can even download and use the photos from my Pexels account.
