I recently learned about the proposal for a Second Bill of Rights by FDR back in 1944. It’s frustrating that 80 years later, we still struggle with some of these issues, which should be fundamental rights.
This inspired me to come up with my own list of 10 new rights that should be added to the Constitution. And also, I came up with 10 more Commandments to add to the original biblical ones while I was at it.
A Modern Bill of Rights
Universal mandatory parental leave: All new parents should get at least 2 weeks of paid time off from work.
Ranked-choice voting: Replace the electoral college with a fairer choice for the voters. Ranked-choice elections are also more civil than winner-take-all elections.
Transparent electoral finance: Political candidates must disclose all their campaign donations, their own finances, and return any unspent fundraising. Also, release their tax returns to avoid a conflict of interest.
Term limits: Two-term maximum for all Congress members, one six-year term for the presidency, and a 10-year term for Supreme Court members.
Right to health: Everyone is entitled to reasonable healthcare and medicine. This cannot be infringed upon by…
