‘Love or Work’ by André and Jeff Shinabarger
Is it possible to change the world, stay in love, and raise a healthy family? That’s the central question put forth by André and Jeff Shinabarger in their new book Love Or Work, which releases August 2020.
From an outside perspective, the Shinabargers are an incredibly successful couple. André is a physician’s assistant and adjunct professor. Jeff is a bestselling author, leadership speaker, and nonprofit founder. Together, they host a podcast with the same name as their book, Love or Work.
However, writing a marriage book involves vulnerably revealing your mistakes and being honest about your failures as a couple. In this way, the Shinabargers do a good job of showing how “we can’t find perfect balance, but we can find a healthy tension.” Their stories reveal the real challenges couples experience when it comes to balancing a successful career and a happy family.
It’s by no means a perfect or comprehensive look at this massive and complex subject, but Love Or Work might just be the best book specifically covering career and marriage that I’ve read.
