5 Lessons Learned From A Year of Consistent Daily Bible Study

As someone who’s grown up in the church, I’ve frequently heard how important regular time spend reading scripture is. I’ve been a part of countless Bible studies; I’ve read the entire Bible; I’ve written several devotionals, and I’ve written out several books of the Bible by hand.

But I’ve also struggled with developing a consistent habit of daily Bible time. Some Christians call this quiet time or priority time. Regardless of the name, my personal time with God always came in fits and starts. I knew it was important, but couldn’t seem to develop consistency.

Until 2022.

Every day this year, I’ve spent some time reading a devotional, writing my reflections, and spending some time in prayer. I’ve finally found the consistency I was looking for. No telling on how this will play out in the long term — but I’ve at least learned several lessons over this time.

1. Pick a Book

Perhaps the biggest key to finally developing my daily devotional habit was purchasing a year-long devotional. There are countless options available, so spend time choosing the right one for you.

This was vital because I would often finish one devotional and then languish in my efforts to select what came next. All of my good intentions…
