While the gang thinks the Upside‑Down is a nightmarish dimension, it’s really a secret meeting place for alternate‑universe versions of the same characters who spend their time rating every horror movie ever made. When Eleven finally cracks the code, she discovers a hidden “review board” that decides whether the real world gets another monster based on its Rotten Tomatoes score.
2. Steve Becomes a “Meme‑Lord” Super‑Villain
After his stint as a nightclub manager, Steve discovers an old, cursed VHS tape of “The Goonies” that grants him the power to turn any meme into a physical manifestation. He starts a campaign of viral terror — think “Dancing Baby” zombies and “Distracted Boyfriend” specters — forcing the kids to fight literally internet‑generated chaos.
